Flights F.A.Q
Now that I have accepted the internship offer, the Internship Agreement is in process, and I know my work dates, can I book my flight?
- You can start to look into flights for your travel dates.
- You can spend up to a maximum of $1,200 USD for your economy class flight ticket (summer travel).
- You can purchase your ticket and you will be reimbursed prior to your departure.
- If you are unable to purchase your own ticket, MIT-Spain will purchase your ticket directly. Coordinate with the Program Manager.
- The reimbursement will be processed in May.
- You will be reimbursed for the actual cost of your ticket.
- You must travel for under 90 days.
Can I depart from my hometown in the USA?
- Yes.
Can I return from another city in Europe?
- Yes. You must purchase a roundtrip ticket. *** Do not purchase 2 separate one way tickets. You can find multi-city as a tab on most websites when leaving and returning from different cities.
Other Tips for flights:
- Make sure that baggage is included as part of your ticket.
- MIT will not reimburse for additional baggage charges.
- MIT will not reimburse for additional travel insurance.
Can I take days off during my internship to travel?
- You are permitted to have personal travel either before and/or after your official work dates. You are not permitted to take vacation days during your internship period. If you would to take a personal day off, you must discuss this with the Program Manager prior to approaching your host.
