  • You can start to look into flights for your travel dates.
  • You can spend up to a maximum of $1,200 USD for your economy class flight ticket (summer travel).
  • You can purchase your ticket and you will be reimbursed prior to your departure.
  • If you are unable to purchase your own ticket, MIT-Spain will purchase your ticket directly.  Coordinate with the Program Manager.
  • The reimbursement will be processed in May.
  • You will be reimbursed for the actual cost of your ticket.
  • You must travel for under 90 days.

Can I depart from my hometown in the USA?

  • Yes.

Can I return from another city in Europe?

  • Yes.  You must purchase a roundtrip ticket. *** Do not purchase 2 separate one way tickets.  You can find multi-city as a tab on most websites when leaving and returning from different cities.

Other Tips for flights:

  • Make sure that baggage is included as part of your ticket.
  • MIT will not reimburse for additional baggage charges.
  • MIT will not reimburse for additional travel insurance.

Can I take days off during my internship to travel?

  • You are permitted to have personal travel either before and/or after your official work dates.  You are not permitted to take vacation days during your internship period.  If you would to take a personal day off, you must discuss this with the Program Manager prior to approaching your host.
